Late 17th Century Bellermine Flagon (no face)

This salt glazed stoneware Belermine flagon dates to the late 17th Century and it's as usable now as it was then. Mainly down to the durable stoneware material, this vessel has survived in very good condition. 

This type of stoneware bottle was made in the Netherlands. They often come with the likeness of Cardinal Bellermine decorating them, these are also known as 'Bartman' jugs. They were also used a witching jugs which entailed filling them with assorted items, sealing them and burying them to deflect a witches curses.
